Team introduction: SJ Gaming

Thursday, October 10, 2019

This season, SJ Gaming is looking to go all the way.

During the first season of Telia Esports Series, SJ took home every single one of their games until they reached the finals. In the regular season they even managed to take down the notorious ENCE. However, during a re-match in the finals, SJ only managed to scratch the international giant as they lost 2-0, winning only three rounds in the two played maps.

“I remember us having a couple of bad games just before the Telia (TES) finals. No one really had the confidence nor the will to win against ENCE again, and you could tell by watching us play. Now, obviously after the first encounter, ENCE probably expected more from us and came prepared”, Tuomas “SADDYX” Louhimaa says.

After a greatly successful first season, fan-favorite SJ starts the second season of Telia Esports Series with the crowd on their backs. Their lineup is the only one in the whole series that has stayed the same for over 6 months: Mikko “xartE” Välimaa and Jesse “KHRN” Grandell joined the team in late 2018, bringing experience to the team. With them, SJ has managed to gain such achievements as winning the FEL (Finnish Esports League) & eSM championships.

SADDYX gave us an insight about the current role situation of SJ Gaming:

“I myself have a fairly versatile role inside the team: in T side I’m in the frontlines with arvid, but this obviously depends on the map. In CT I play a lot of solo positions, which makes it hard for me to get kills.

“Jamppi is our AWP. arvid leads us as the IGL and calls all the necessary stuff, but he also gets a lot of help doing this. XartE plays support, and he’s always giving us ideas and looking for new tactics to try inside the games. KHRN is a lurk-ish player, but you can’t really call him one; he does a little everything.

SJ starts the second season of Telia Esports Series with the championship in their eyes, and their first game that was against Veto Esports was a successful one. SADDYX said a couple of words about their goals for this season:

“We’re going for the win. After winning HAVU 3 times in a row, I think that we’ve gained a mental advantage over them. Two LAN wins & one online, I think we’re gonna take them here as well. We’re all expecting a win.”

There are rumours that Elias “Jamppi” Olkkonen might be looking at other opportunities outside of SJ. On Friday 11th we’ll see if SJ can bring their A-game despite the rumours and beat HAVU once again. Watch the game on JIM, Ruutu, or Twitch at 23:00.
