KOVA Esports wants to win it all this season
KOVA Esports started their journey massively in the first season of Telia Esports Series and they finished third, just behind ENCE and SJ Gaming. During the summer they surprised everyone and won Assembly Summer. This season they look a little bit different.
Tony "STOVVE" Liukkonen left in the summer and Petteri "peku" Jaakkola replaced him. On September, HAVU and KOVA swapped players. Their in-game leader Joonas "doto" Forss went to HAVU Gaming and young hitter Samuli "Twixie" Herrala transferred to KOVA Esports. The swap meant that peku took the igl role, like he has done with his previous teams. Lauri "pietola" Hietala described the roles of the team.
"I enjoy preparing our practices. I try to figure out new tactics and setups. During the matches I'm usually on the other side of the map. I'm kind of lurking but also supporting. I'm trying to help our entry guys.", he described his own role.
"Uli plays pretty much the same role as I do, but he gets a little bit more action than me."
"Peku is our AWP player and he is the in-game leader at the same time. Twixie and derkeps are our power duo, who are our first wave of attack. Peku goes as the third guy trying to keep them in check."
Doto isn't leading them anymore, but pietola isn't concerned about the change. Even though doto took a lot of experience away with him, the change freed up space for others.
"Doto was our key player. We lost something when he left, but we also gained too. Others have maybe more space to play now. The leading style of peku is somewhat different. I believe the change will affect us positively."
The role of Twixie will be different compared to his role on HAVU.
"He has been kind of in a wrong role so far. Maybe now it's his time to shine. I told Twixie, that we want to make you our star player."
KOVA wants to win this season.
"I believe that we can win, when we practice enough and develop as individuals."
KOVA starts their season against Helsinki REDS. They have won all the matches so far, but they have been pretty close most of the time. In a best-of-one, they can't afford to give any free rounds for REDS.
REDS signed Juho "juho" Lampinen just before the season started. They try to get to a new level after they've been stuck behind HAVU, SJ and KOVA for a while. Juho has played with ENCE and HAVU and he might win them matches on his own, when he is at his best. The opening match will tell how well juho has been integrated to the team in less than a week.
KOVA and hREDS start Telia Esports Series Season 2 on Friday night. The broadcast begins 11pm and it's available on JIM, Ruutu and Twitch.
